Council Library team at IFLA World Library and Information Congress

August is no ‘silly season’ for information professionals: some of us have joined 4000 other librarians in Lyon for the 80th World Library and Information Congress. The Congress, organised yearly by the International Federation of Library Associations, is the major annual rendez-vous exploring trends in the management and discovery of information, in settings ranging from small community libraries to world-scale academic networks and organizations.

As always, the keynotes speakers address hot issues in the wider field of information, reading, and the transmission of knowledge: to name but two of the plenary speeches, French philosopher Bernard Stiegler took the floor on the very topical subject ‘The Future of Reading’;  Pierre Dillenbourg, organizer of the recent European MOOC summit 2013, gave an unexpected perspective on Massive Open Online Courses.

Katharina and Hans from the library team have been sharing their takeaways from the conference. Follow their Twitter accounts @katharinapausch and @hschoemaker, and hashtags #wlic2014 and #EUCOlibrary to stay up-to-date.

We’ll also include a feed of tweets from library staff in the main blog page (look left, it should be there, or drop us a line if you can’t see it…)
