On 1st July 2016, Slovakia took over the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU from the Netherlands, as part of the Netherlands-Slovak-Maltese ‘Trio Presidency’ (January 2016 – June 2017).

On this occasion, the Language Library has prepared a note with suggestions for further reading. This is available in the Language Library and is based on a selection of books and periodicals (2010 onwards) in various policy areas of the Council.

  • Access the selection here.

Our readers will discover a variety of material in Slovak covering criminal procedural law, human rights, asylum law, civil law, as well as a selection of important decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice concerning the Slovak Republic.

Slovak is an Indo-European language that belongs to the West Slavic group of languages (together with the Czech and Polish).

The Library is open to all staff of the Council of the European Union and the European Council, trainees, Permanent Representations of Member States, staff of other EU institutions and bodies, as well as to researchers and students (upon appointment by email at library@consilium.europa.eu). Access to some library resources may be restricted to on-site consultation.
